Foundation funds a State-of-the-Art Simulation Lab at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth

CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth is proud to announce the opening of a $1.2 million state-of-the-art Simulation Center, designed to deliver cutting-edge clinical training for health care professionals across Southeast Texas.

This new Simulation Lab provides a highly realistic training environment equipped with high-fidelity mannequins that mimic real medical conditions. These advanced patient simulators allow clinicians to practice essential, hands-on skills such as IV insertion, CPR, and emergency procedures—skills that are vital for delivering life-saving care in high-pressure situations.

Elevating Training and Readiness: Simulation-based learning offers more than just practice—it builds confidence, sharpens teamwork, and enhances readiness for real-life medical scenarios. By recreating emergency, critical care, and labor & delivery settings, the new SIM Lab ensures CHRISTUS providers can hone their abilities in a safe, controlled environment before applying them at the bedside.

A Community-Driven Milestone: This milestone would not have been possible without the generosity of donors and the dedication of our community. The journey began with a $50,000 gift from the Children’s Miracle Network “Making Miracles Happen” Fund, which set the vision in motion.

Building on that momentum, the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation successfully raised over $1.2 million to bring this project to life. Key support came from an anonymous donor, the Valero Benefit for Children, the DuJay Charitable Foundation, and proceeds from the Annual CHRISTUS Gala. Together, these contributions reflect the extraordinary commitment of our community to advancing health care in Southeast Texas.

A Commitment to the Future of Health Care: With the opening of the Simulation Lab, CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth takes an important step forward in medical education and patient care. By investing in advanced training tools and environments, CHRISTUS is ensuring that the next generation of health care providers is equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to meet every challenge.

Mamie McFaddin Ward Women’s Center Reopens After Transformative Renovation

In May 2025, the Mamie McFaddin Ward Women’s Center at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth reopened following a transformative renovation, unveiling a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to women’s health.

A Calming, Modern Environment for Care: The remodel elevated every aspect of the Women’s Center to better serve our patients. From expanded treatment areas and a new private entrance to redesigned, serene interiors, the space was intentionally created to provide a calming and supportive environment.

Advanced Technology Close to Home: A highlight of the renovation is the addition of two brand-new, state-of-the-art 3D mammography units, the most advanced technology available for breast health imaging. With these upgrades, women in Southeast Texas now have access to the same high-quality care found in major medical centers, without leaving the community.

“Technology is changing at a rapid pace, and it’s important that our community has access to the best technology, the best people, and the best facilities,” said Paul Trevino, President/CEO of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System. “With this renovation, CHRISTUS continues to deliver that level of excellence.”

Powered by Community Generosity: This $1.5 million project was made possible through extraordinary generosity, anchored by a $1 million gift from an anonymous donor and an additional $500,000 in community contributions. The CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation is honored to have been part of this effort and grateful for the support of the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation, whose legacy has long supported women’s and cancer care across the region.

Honoring a Legacy of Giving: Mamie McFaddin Ward’s passion for science and medicine lives on through her Foundation, which she created to support her community through health care and philanthropy. Today, her vision continues in the Women’s Center that bears her name -providing advanced technology, compassionate care, and a healing environment for generations of women.
