Scholarship assistance will be in the form of an advance for tuition, course textbooks, and living expenses incurred by the scholarship recipient. In return, the applicant agrees to work as a nurse or healthcare professional for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas for a minimum of two years in a full-time capacity after graduation or repay the money awarded to the Southeast Texas Foundation.

Scholarships will be awarded for the spring and fall semesters based on individual needs. Applicants may obtain an application from Human Resources. Scholarship applications must be completed a minimum of 2-weeks prior to the beginning of the upcoming semester.

Each applicant must sign the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Program Agreement which stipulates that the applicant agrees to obligate himself as outlined under this policy and as detailed in the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Scholarship Program Agreement.

Selection Process:

Selection Committee will review scholarship applications and select scholarship recipients.

Method of Payment:

Scholarship recipients will receive a check payable to the school in which coursework is being completed.

Repayment of Financial Assistance:

The full amount of financial assistance received by an applicant is regarded as an obligation and a loan. The obligation is designed to be paid back in services at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas ministries after the recipient completes education in the outlined profession.

To pay back the loan, the applicant is required to work at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas ministry for a minimum of two (2) years in a full-time capacity after completion of coursework.

Should the applicant not be able to pay back the loan in the form of services, then the full amount of the loan not paid back in employment services shall be paid back in cash to the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation within 30 days of written notice. Failure to pay back the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation will be seen as a breach of contract and will be reported to the Nursing Board and will be turned over to a collection agency.

If the applicant should be physically unable to perform or become totally and permanently disabled, the loan obligation would be forgiven and considered paid in full by the applicant.
